MacDowell offers residencies of up to six weeks year-round to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators on 450 wooded acres near Mt. Monadnock in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Residents are provided with a private studio and work space, as well as access to the James Baldwin Library. Stipends and travel reimbursement grants are available based on financial need. For residencies from September 2024 through February 2025, writers submitted 6 to 10 poems (totaling no more than 15 pages) or 15 to 25 pages of prose and a project proposal with a $30 application fee by February 10. Following these guidelines, translators submitted a writing sample of poetry or prose in English along with the matching selection in the original language.
