Houghton Mifflin Inks Deal to Deliver Books to Cell Phones

Houghton Mifflin announced today that it has signed a deal with the technology company Mobifusion to offer the electronic delivery of books to cell phones, Publishers Weekly reported. Mobifusion currently provides the e-book delivery service for Avalon, New World Library, and Simon & Schuster.

Houghton Mifflin will begin by offering reference books and children’s titles for download. The first title will be The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, which will include "added functionality" features for cell phone users.

The books will initially be available only from mobile carriers Embarq, Qwest, Orange UK, and Bell Mobility in Canada, which will independently determine whether titles may be accessed by subscription or individual download. Though pricing has not been set, Houghton announced that the cost of each e-book will be similar to its list price.
