Book Riot has rounded up the latest wave of book ban-related bills making their way through D.C. These include HR 7661, or the “Stop the Sexualization of Children Act,” which would prohibit the use of funds for any program or activity for children under eighteen that “includes sexually oriented material,” including providing or promoting literature that features these themes. A companion bill to this one was introduced in the Senate late last month, which signals a potential desire by lawmakers to pass both quickly. Then there is also HR 2616, a nationwide “don’t say trans” bill, which could also pave the way for book bans, and HR 8705 or the “CHARLIE Act,” which would withhold funding from public schools with programming around inclusivity, especially pertaining to race and gender.
