Author's Bio

Celia Lisset Alvarez holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Miami and has taught composition, literature, scientific, and creative writing at several South Florida universities, as well as highschool. Her debut collection of poetry, Shapeshifting (Spire Press, 2006), was the recipient of the 2005 Spire Press Poetry Award. A second collection, The Stones (Finishing Line Press, 2006) followed that same year. Poems from these collections are also in the anthologies White Ink: Poems on Mothers and Motherhood (Demeter Press, 2007) and Letters to the World (Red Hen Press, 2008). A third collection, Multiverses (Finishing Line Press, 2021) is due out on May 7, 2021. Other work has appeared in the Iodine Poetry Journal, qarrtsiluni, the Powhatan Review, Tar Wolf Review, Alba, MotherVerse, Other Investigations, Lore, Poui: The Cave Hill Literary Annual, zingmagazine, and Mangrove, and in the anthologies Women Moving Forward: Narratives of Identity, Migration, Resilience, and Hope, Vol. 1. (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2006), Not a Muse (Haven Books, 2009), and Eating Her Wedding Dress: A Collection of Clothing Poems (Ragged Sky Press, 2009). Recently, her poem “Wonder Woman Goes through Menopause” was the winner of the 2008 HereThere Poetry Contest. Born in Madrid, Spain of Cuban parents en route to the United States, she grew up in Miami and lives there still with her husband, Cuban-American literary scholar Rafael Miguel Montes. She is currently the editor of Prospectus: A Literary Offering.
