After a tomboy upbringing on the East Coast, then a decade teaching English, coaching basketball, and making high schools safer for LGBTQ-youth on the West Coast, I moved to the Ohio, where I currently teach writing at Oberlin College. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm and teaching energy and am available every January for Writer Residencies in high schools, colleges, or community centers--especially in regions that have warmer winters than northeast Ohio! I have plenty of experience and fun teaching creative writing, journalism, and composition. In addition to my publications, my writing background includes: two "people's choice" Cable Car Awards for "Best Columnist" (San Francisco); two Lambda Literary Award nominations for Poetry; and multiple songwriting credits with the Backbone (my favorite side project as a bass player) on the album WHO WE WANT TO BE, which is available at CDBaby.com.
Author of the novella, When I Return To You, I Will Be Unfed (April, 2016), Christopher Bowen has sponsored and participated in readings throughout the Eastern seaboard, Midwest, and West coast. The focus of his work is short stories and flash fiction. He blogs from Burning River.
