The Salty Quill Writers’ Retreat for Women offers one-week residencies four times a year to twelve poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators who identify as women at McGee Island, a 110-acre private island located three miles east of Port Clyde, Maine. Residents are provided with lodging at a turn-of-the-century oceanfront summer cottage in single- or shared-occupancy rooms, three chef-prepared meals a day, transportation to and from the island, and the opportunity to participate in after-dinner readings and critiques as well as to kayak, hike, and use the onsite sauna. The cost of the retreat is $2,175 to $3,000 depending on the room selection. To apply for a residency from September 26 to October 3 or from October 3 to October 10, e-mail to request a general application form and submit a 10-page writing sample. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. One full scholarship is available per session; to apply, e-mail to request a scholarship application form and submit a 10-page writing sample, a personal statement of up to 250 words, and a financial statement of up to 500 words with a $30 application fee by June 15.
