The Salty Quill Writers’ Retreat for Women offers weeklong residencies four times a year to twelve poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators who identify as women at McGee Island, a 110-acre private island located three miles east of Port Clyde, Maine. Residents are provided with lodging at a turn-of-the-century oceanfront summer cottage in single- or shared-occupancy rooms, three chef-prepared meals a day, and transportation to and from the island, as well as access to trails, kayaks, and a sauna. The residency also includes after-dinner readings and critiques. The cost of the retreat is $2,100 to $2,900 depending on the selected room. To apply for a residency from May 16 to May 23, or May 23 to May 30, e-mail the organization to request a general application and prepare a 10-page writing sample to submit along with the application form. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. One fully funded scholarship is available.
