Orion Magazine’s Environmental Writers’ Workshop was held from June 19 to June 24 at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York. The program featured workshops, faculty readings and lectures, panels on publishing, and one-on-one meetings with faculty members and Orion editors for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers “seeking to deepen their relationship to place through their written work.” The faculty included poets Elizabeth Bradfield and Geffrey Davis; fiction and nonfiction writer Scott Russell Sanders; and nonfiction writers Michael Kleber-Diggs and Katrina Vandenberg. Tuition was $995. Lodging, meals, and all-inclusive use of site facilities costs between $475 for those camping to $1,500 for a single cabin with a private bath. Using only the online application system, writers submitted up to six pages of poetry or up to 1,500 words of prose by May 15. There is no application fee. Applications were accepted on a rolling basis. Scholarships were available. Visit the website for more information.
