The 2022 Guanajuato Writing Retreat: Writing – and Living – Boldly was held from June 12 to June 19 at the Florecer Casitas in Guanajuato, the hilly capital city of Guanajuato state, in Mexico’s high plateau region. The retreat featured guided exploratory writing sessions led by poet Bonnie Wolkenstein, local excursions to destinations including Museo de Astronomía Prehispánica and La Cañada de la Virgen, and independent time to write for poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators. The cost of the retreat was $1,795, which included housing, transportation to and from the airport, some meals, workshop fees, and excursion admission fees; it did not include airfare. To apply, writers e-mailed or called workshop leader Bonnie Wolkenstein to discuss their fit with the program before submitting an online registration form by April 25. Participants were required to submit an electronic copy of vaccine documentation and a valid passport. Visit the website for more information.

Accessibility accommodations included public transportation near the venue. Alternative programming was available for participants unable to participate in excursions involving hiking. Writers contacted owner of Florecer Casitas, Liz Mapelli, at or +52 1 473 117 8576 for additional details about lodging accessibility.
