The 2023 Elk River Writers Workshop will be held from August 13 to August 18 at Chico Hot Springs, a historic retreat in Pray, Montana, near Yellowstone National Park. The program features workshops, craft talks, outings, lectures, panel discussions, and campfire readings for poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers. The faculty includes poets Sean Hill and Sean Singer, and novelists Debra Magpie Earling, Jamie Ford, and Laura Pritchett. Tuition is $1,600, with some scholarships available. Lodging is available at Chico Hot Springs and other area hotels. Using only the online application system, writers submitted a writing sample of up to 3,000 words and a brief bio with a $25 application fee by May 1. To apply for scholarships, writers filled out an online application form after submitting a workshop application; they applied by April 1 for the Western Colorado University and Park County scholarships and by May 1 for the diversity scholarships.
