The 2019 Chuckanut Writers Conference, cohosted by Whatcom Community College and Village Books, was held on June 21 and June 22 on the campus of Whatcom Community College in the scenic coastal city of Bellingham, Washington. The conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as keynotes, readings, open mics, and consultations with agents, editors, and marketing professionals. Optional preconference master classes were held on June 20. The faculty included poets Anastacia-Renee, Quenton Baker, Claudia Castro Luna, Ely Shipley, and Jane Wong; fiction writers Terry Brooks, Tara Conklin, Omar El Akkad, Laurie Frankel, Kim Fu, Sonora Jha, and Garth Stein; creative nonfiction writers Kate Carroll de Gutes, Lyanda Lynn Haupt, Margot Kahn, and Claire Sicherman; and fiction and nonfiction writer Nancy Pearl. Participating publishing professionals included marketing consultant Alice B. Acheson, editor Hannah Elnan (Sasquatch Books), and Natalie Grazian (Martin Literary Management). The cost of the conference, not including meals, was $245 until May 21 and $285 thereafter. The registration deadline was June 20. Pitch sessions with literary agents were available for an additional $10 and marketing consultations were available for an additional $20; writers registered by June 7.
