The American University of Paris Summer Creative Writing Institute offered workshops to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers from June 28 to July 19 on the university’s campus in the seventh arrondissement of Paris. The faculty included poet and fiction writer Siân Dafydd, poet and nonfiction writer Biswamit Dwibedy, and novelist Amanda Dennis. The cost of tuition was €2,050 (approximately $2,158 for auditors); the cost of tuition for transferable academic credit was €4,100 (approximately $4,316). Lodging was available in residence halls arranged through the university. Using only the online application system, writers submitted a personal statement, academic transcripts (or a copy of a tertiary degree for auditors), and an online application form with a €50 (approximately $53) application fee by June 1. To apply for one of three travel stipends of up to €500 (approximately $526), writers submitted via e-mail a creative writing sample of three to five poems of any length or five to 10 pages of prose and a paragraph explaining how this course in Paris might help you develop as a writer, in addition to the completed summer application and application fee, by March 31. Accessibility accommodations included public transportation near the venue, elevators in all multilevel event spaces, and accessible doorways. E-mail the university for additional accessibility details or to arrange workshop scheduling in an accessible classroom.
