The Apple Valley Review is an online literary journal. It is published twice annually, once in spring and once in fall. Each issue features a collection of poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction. The goal of the journal is to support and promote both emerging and established writers.

We prefer work that has both mainstream and literary appeal. Please do not send us strict genre fiction or erotica, work containing explicit language or violence, or work that is scholarly or critical, inspirational, or intended for children. Please note that these are purely editorial preferences. Work that is not a good fit here may be perfect for another market.

Black Lawrence Press is an independent publisher of contemporary poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. We also publish the occasional translation from German. We hold open reading periods during the months of June and November. We also hold several contests each year.

Black Lawrence is a selective press. Number of previous publications is unimportant; what matters is the quality of the work. Please send your best work. Black Lawrence Press only accepts submissions via Submittable.

CavanKerry Press seeks materials from the broadest range of writers, including people of color and people with disabilities. We are partial to the writer whose distinct voice is emotionally accessible and daring. We discourage victim-ridden, pedagogic, politically preachy or sentimental material. CKP does not publish self-help, how-to, romance or sci-fi. For more info, see cavankerrypress.org/submit

Please review guidelines before submitting manuscripts.

Familiarize yourself with some of CavanKerry's work. You can find a sample of the quality of our authors and the type of work we publish over at https://www.cavankerrypress.org/words-to...

Most of all, we want to connect to you through your writing - to step into your world and understand its shape and the experiences which have made it that way. The most successful manuscripts will not be buried in layers of allusion, but will be welcome and illuminating, revealing something true and unobscured about the life that led the poems within to be crafted.

NMP is a publisher of chapbooks and broadsides. We have a pretty wide aesthetic range, and we acquire manuscripts primarily through our yearly chapbook contest ($1,000 prize, deadline in spring). See the website for more information.

The best way to get a sense of what we publish is to read a couple of our chapbooks.

Wave Books is an independent poetry press based in Seattle, Washington, dedicated to publishing the best in contemporary poetry, poetry in translation, and writing by poets. The press was founded in 2005, merging with established publisher Verse Press. By publishing strong innovative work in finely crafted trade editions and hand-made ephemera, we hope to continue to challenge the values and practices of readers and add to the collective sense of what’s possible in contemporary poetry.

Wave Books is not currently accepting any unsolicited manuscripts. We do occasionally have open reading periods, so please check our submissions page for updates or sign up for our newsletter. Please note that we do publish fiction, essays, and criticism but only by poets or related to poetry. Please do not email us outside of our open reading period.
