Krista Cox of Sundress Publications Recommends...

There is already loads of advice for those who write: how to protect your writing time, get your work published, sell your books. But I’d like to offer some advice for those of us who struggle to write.

In all the vast history and future of this entire universe, there is only one you. Only one person, ever, will have your combination of biology, psychology, and experiences. Think about all the translations of The Odyssey: Each translator brought their own voice and insight to an identical text, and their perspective transformed it. Your voice is not just unique; it is singular. So how could you ever feel like you have nothing worth saying? Nobody else could ever say what you say in the way you say it! Imposter syndrome, be damned! Write the thing!

And, because your voice is singular, you have a responsibility to it. Take your writing seriously. Learn how to hear what it’s trying to say, regardless of your intention for it. Invest in craft not with the goal of making your work marketable or palatable, but making it truer, clearer, more resonant. More yours.
