New York, NY—May 28, 2020—Poets & Writers is pleased to announce that the organization has been awarded a generous grant from the Amazon Literary Partnership. This grant will provide renewed support to United States of Writing, an initiative launched in 2019 to expand Poets & Writers’ core programming to better serve writers coast to coast, especially writers of color and others from historically marginalized groups. Together with support from the Hearst Foundations, funding from the Amazon Literary Partnership will enable Poets & Writers to deepen our community-building work in Detroit, Houston, and New Orleans.
“In times of danger and upheaval, writers help us make sense of what’s happening, expand our capacity for empathy, and imagine the future. So we are especially grateful to have the renewed support of Amazon Literary Partnership this year,” said Elliot Figman, Poets & Writers’ executive director. “In a field that is woefully under-capitalized, Amazon’s support for the literary community is critical.”
“The Amazon Literary Partnership grants are awarded to innovative groups whose core mission have a deep impact on the lives of writers and the broader literary and publishing community,” said Alexandra Woodworth, Amazon Literary Partnership manager. “We are proud to support all of this year’s ALP grant recipients and applaud their commitment to nurturing a vibrant and diverse literary landscape.” For the full list of Amazon Literary Partnership 2020 awardees, visit blog.aboutamazon.com/books-and-authors/amazon-literary-partnership-announces-2020-grant-recipients.
