Poets & Writers Magazine Contributor Receives Awards

July 23, 2008 – Poets & Writers congratulates Poets & Writers Magazine contributor Joe Woodward for winning first place in the Entertainment/Criticism/Magazines category at the Los Angeles Press Club’s 50th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards for his article “Carol Muske Dukes: The Novelist’s Inner Poet.” Woodward’s profile of the poet and novelist was the cover story of the July/August 2007 issue of Poets & Writers Magazine. “Woodward has a wonderful knack for getting inside his subjects’ heads. His well-crafted, thorough piece took us into the home of Carol Muske-Dukes, setting the scene while skillfully weaving background material into the interview,” said the judges.

Woodward’s profile of writer Neal Pollack, “A Satirist Shows His Soft Side,” won second place in the same category. The article was the cover story of the January/February 2007 issue of Poets & Writers Magazine.
