Founded in 1974, Black Warrior Review publishes contemporary fiction, poetry, and nonfiction by award-winning writers alongside work by new and emerging voices. Issues also feature art, comics, and a curated chapbook. Each summer reading period, BWR hosts a contest with guest editors and cash prizes in each genre.

BWR only takes online submissions unless you do not have access to a computer/internet. Please visit our website for details.

Before sending, please check our website for features, read interviews with masthead or contest judges, or consider buying an issue! As a graduate-run journal, tastes change every year, so our current calls for submissions are the most up-to-date way to know what our editors are looking for.
