Author's Bio

I grew up in Connecticut. I now live in Tucson, Arizona and Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada. Formerly Director of the University of Arizona Poetry Center, I'm Agnese Nelms Haury Chair in Environment & Social Justice and Professor of Creative Writing at UA;affiliated faculty with the UA Institute of the Environment; Senior Fellow with the Spring Creek Project, Department of Philosophy, Oregon State University; on Board of Directors for Orion magazine and terrain.org; and a student of jazz piano. My new nonfiction book ZOOLOGIES: ON ANIMALS AND THE HUMAN SPIRIT was published by Milkweed Editions in October 2014.
