This Motionpoems film, presented by Button Poetry, is an adaptation of Cortney Lamar Charleston’s poem “How Do You Raise a Black Child?” directed by Seyi Peter-Thomas and produced by Station Film, in partnership with Cave Canem. Charleston is the author of the poetry collection, Telepathologies (Saturnalia Books, 2017).
“When a woman you love hits you / on the head with a book / you love, is that love?” At the New School, Brenda Shaughnessy reads from her poetry collection So Much Synth (Copper Canyon Press, 2016) for a Cave Canem event with poet Jamaal May.

“Joy is an act of resistance.” At the sixty-seventh National Book Awards ceremony, Cave Canem founders Toi Derricotte and Cornelius Eady accept the Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community for the organization known as a home for African American poets. This is the first time the award has been given to an organization.
American Stanzas: 2006–2016 is a photography and mixed media arts show presenting work by poet and visual artist Rachel Eliza Griffiths. The exhibition is sponsored by Poets House and Cave Canem Foundation.
Rickey Laurentiis reads "Black Iris" from his poetry collection, Boy With Thorn (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2015), winner of the 2014 Cave Canem Prize. Laurentiis is one of the debut poets in "Fractures Through Time" in the January/February issue of Poets & Writers Magazine.
Sandra Lim reads selections from her poetry collection The Wilderness (Norton, 2014) and Frank X Walker reads from his poetry collection Turn Me Loose: The Unghosting of Medgar Evers (University of Georgia Press, 2013).
