Bio: 

Joachim Frank, a German-born scientist and writer, moved in 1975 to Albany, New York and more recently (2008) relocated to New York City.  He took fiction writing classes at the Skidmore Summer workshops of the New York Writers Institute with William Kennedy, Steven Millhauser, Eugene Garber, and Jayne Ann Phillips.

Short Fiction

He has published several short stories and prose poems in Lost and Found Times, The Agent, Inkblot, Heidelberg Review, Groundswell, Peer Glass, and Open Mic, all print.  Short fiction has appeared in online journals including elimae, 3711 Atlantic, Cezanne's Carrot, Brilliant, Eclectica, Offcourse, The Noneuclidean Cafe, Ghoti Magazine, Duck and Herring Co. Pocket Field Guide, Hamilton Stone Review, Bartleby Snopes, Red Ochre Lit, Fiction Fix, Wasafiri, TXTOBJ, Door Is A Jar, and Black&White.  All published short stories and poems are available on his literary website franxfiction.com.

Novels

His first novel, AAN ZEE, was published in 2019 by The University Press of the South.  His second novel, IERAPETERA, OR HIS SISTER'S KEEPER, was published in 2024.  Two additional novels are still unpublished: NARCIS and THE OBSERVATORY.

Poetry

His poems have appeared in Heidelberg Review, Offcourse, Raving Dove, Infiniti's Kitchen and The New Poet.  His early German poems have been recently published in Signaturen Magazin, Germany.

Translations

His German translations of selected poems by Michael Heller have appeared in Signaturen Magazin, Germany.

Photography

His photographs have been exhibited in several shows in the Albany region, and published in Cowbird, *82 Review and Hole in Head.

Science

His work as a scientist (professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Columbia University) has been published in over 300 peer-reviewed articles and six books.  He shared the 2017 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Jacques Dubochet and Richard Henderson.
