Andy Kantar is the author of a trilogy of shipwreck books published by Michigan State University Press. They tell the stories of the three largest ships to be lost on the three largest Great Lakes: BLACK NOVEMBER (2006), a finalist for the ForeWord Book of the Year (YA nonfiction) and nominated for the Great Lakes Book Award; DEADLY VOYAGE (2009), selected for One Book, One County Reads (sponsored by the Michigan Humanities Council); and 29 MISSING (1998), designated a Michigan Notable Book for young adults (1999). His novel, GAME FACE, received the Bronze Medal at the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards (2013) and was nominated for the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award (2013). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and was an English professor and director of the Writing Center at Ferris State University for more than 30 years. He also served two years as a Fulbright Scholar to Norway. Andy and his wife, Fran, have three children and live in Minneapolis.

GAME FACE, a middle grade novel, received a Bronze Medal at the 2013 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards and was nominated for the 2013 Northeastern Minnesota Book Award (NEMBA) in the children's literature category. His nonfiction books have been recognized as Michigan Notable Book for young adults, finalist for ForeWord Book of the Year (YA nonfiction), and nominated for the Great Lakes Book Award. He was awarded a Senior Fulbright Lectureship to Norway's University of Science and Technology in Trondheim (1991-93).
