Two prizes of $500 each will be given annually for a short story and an essay. The winning short story and essay will be published in Bethesda Magazine. Residents of Maryland's Montgomery county and upper northwest Washington D.C. (postal codes 20015 and 20016) are eligible for the short story contest; residents of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. are eligible for the essay contest. Submit a short story of up to 4,000 words, or an essay of up to 500 words by January 23. There is no entry fee. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
