Author's Bio

June Sylvester Saraceno is the author of two poetry collections, "Altars of Ordinary Light" and "of Dirt and Tar," as well as a chapbook of prose poems, "Mean Girl Trips." She is English Program Chair and Professor in Humanities at Sierra Nevada College, Tahoe. In addition to teaching courses in Humanities and English, she developed the BA in English and initiated a BFA in creative writing. Partnering with Brian Turner, she also co-created the low residency MFA in creative writing at SNC. In 2008, she initiated the Writers in the Woods literary speaker series. She is the founding editor (1990) of the Sierra Nevada Review, a literary journal.

Prizes Won: 
Awarded the Nazir and Mary Ansari Gold Medal for Distinguished Teaching (2014) Recipient of two month-long artist residencies at Camac Centre d’Art, France, 2013 and 2014. Awarded Sierra Artist Grant ($1,000.00) for excellence in literary arts. Outstanding Teacher of the Humanities Award, Nevada Humanities Council, 2013. First Place Poetry Prize in Winter Annual Literary Contest, Moonshine Ink, 2013.
