Printers Row Journal

At the center of Printers Row Journal, our premium weekly supplement, is a handsomely produced short story pamphlet. The Tribune showcases winners of our Nelson Algren Short Story competition but aims to build on that tradition by spotlighting even more top-quality new work. While we love stories from the Midwest, our goal is to honor glorious stories regardless of setting.

Prodigal

We curate each issue around a theme. While we use these to guide the overall shape of each issue and what it explores, we don't do so pedantically. And If you feel you have a piece that fits only obliquely with what we're 'consciously' asking for, we're still happy to read it.

Profane

Profane is an annual print and audio journal featuring an eclectic mix of poetry, creative non-fiction, and fiction. We record every poem and piece of prose we publish in the author's own voice. Writing that's surprising or difficult, emotionally and/or intellectually, in even small, subtle ways, has the potential to leave readers changed as a result. To possess that potential is our definition of "good writing." We try to publish work that doesn't just exist for shock value, but rather crosses cultural and personal boundaries with purpose, thoughtfulness, and attention to craft.
