Co-editor of the literary journal Off the Coast, Valerie Lawson has won awards for her poetry and performance at the Cambridge Poetry Awards and has been twice nominated for Pushcart Prizes. Dog Watch, her first full-length collection of poems was published in 2007 by Ragged Sky Press. In 2008, Lawson collaborated with sculptor Wesley Reddick to produce poems for the Belfast Poetry Festival. She is currently working on a manuscript of poems about winter in Downeast Maine.
Lawson has performed her poetry at venues throughout New England and participated in cultural exchanges with Ireland celebrating the United Nations Decade calling for a Culture of Peace. She performed regularly with Doc Brown’s Traveling Poetry Show in Boston. In 2008, Lawson was invited to the First Women of the World International Poetry Slam in Detroit as a Legacy Poet.
Lawson co-hosts a poetry reading series in Eastport, Maine and teaches poetry classes at Sunrise County Senior College at the University of Maine in Machias.
