The 27th annual Summer Fishtrap Gathering of Writers was held from July 7 to July 13 at the Wallowa Lake Camp and Retreat Center in Wallowa Lake, Oregon. The program featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as panel discussions, readings, and time to write. The theme for the 2014 conference was “What the River Says: The Art of Listening in a Turbulent World.” Participating writers included Kim Barnes, John Daniel, Brenda Miller, Kim Stafford, Perrin Kerns, and Luis Alberto Urrea. The keynote speaker was poet Naomi Shihab Nye, who also taught a weeklong workshop. Tuition ranged from $215 for a weekend workshop to $695 for a five-day workshop. Evening readings were free.
