Author's Bio

Malín Alegria is the author of two Young Adult novels, a four-book series, and several short stories.

Malin’s first novel, Estrella’s Quinceñera was selected Bitch Media’s 100 YA books for Feminist Readers. Her second novel Sofi Mendoza’s Guide to Getting Lost in Mexico was released May 2007. Both titles published by Simon & Schuster. In 2011, Malin was featured on NPR’s special series: 2 Languages, Many Voices, Latinos in the US.She published the "Border Town" series with Scholastic in 2012.

Malin Alegria believes YA literature provides a means for young people to make sense of themselves, each other, and the world around them. Malin’s work provides culturally relevant stories and personal accounts that connect with young audiences, inspire, and motivate them to believe in themselves, work hard, and own their voice.

Malin Alegria is known for her comedic, fun, entertaining quinceañera dress presentations--voted Top 15 Fashionable Authors in 2013 by Student 365 Magazine.

Prizes won: 

Her teen series, Border Town, was awarded first and second place in the 2013 International Latino Book Awards for Best Youth Latino Focused Chapter Book and was a finalist in the 2013 Northern California Book Awards. Book 4 in the Border Town series was recently nominated 2014 Best Fiction for Young Adults by the Young Adult Library Services Association.
