"On behalf of Blushing Sky Writer's Playground and the young ladies of
The Detroit International Academy for Young Women, I would like to
thank Poets & Writers for funding the incredible event that was
held on Thursday, April 14, 2008. After reading Quraysh Ali Lansana's
book, 'They Shall Run - Harriet Tubman Poems' and discussing the voice,
life, sacrifice, conviction and power of this amazing woman, my
students were very excited to welcome Quraysh and participate in the
three workshops he held at our school. Quraysh was inspirational and
the students were highly engaged and excited throughout. The day was
capped off by a reading held in the school auditorium where several
students read their own persona poems on the theme: 'Can one woman make
a difference in the world?'
