The world floods over us with its constant visual stimulus, tactile experience, auditory vibrancy, pungent smells, and impressive tastes. Art is one of the ways we animate what we remember of this constant flood. This is where my poetry starts—a vehicle for animating the flood. Storytelling and poetry, communicating our experiences to each other, is an imperative aspect of our lives. They are what allows us to engage each other, to survive, to innovate, and ultimately, to thrive. As a mixed race girl, my family members spoke four different tongues. Living in such a convergence of culture made the borderlands between these worlds more apparent. Those borderlands, the hybrid areas are the places where we learn the most about our environment, our expectations, and our ego. They force us out of complacency and comfort. With my writing, I explore the convergence or collision of our worlds.
