Suzi Q. Smith is an artist and an activist. She is mother to an amazing daughter who fills her life with joy. Her work has been published in numerous anthologies and literary magazines, while her name is well known throughout the spoken word circuit. She has shared stages with Gil Scott Heron, Les Nubians, Dead Prez, and many more. Her passionate performances have earned her a place among the best Spoken Word artists in the nation. Suzi Q. has worked with civil rights organizations, victim advocate organizations, arts organizations, peace organizations, among others. In 2011, Suzi Q. competed in the Women of the World Poetry Slam and is currently ranked third in the world. She is also a member of the 2011 Denver Slam Team, and a coach of the Minor Disturbance Youth Poetry Slam Team.
I served on the Editorial Board and the Board of Directors of New York Quarterly under the late William Packard, and on its Advisory Board under current editor Raymond Hammond; also as a Contributing Columnist of Home Planet News, and Guest Editor of The Pedestal. My work has appeared in hundreds of literary journals over the past 35 years, as well as on NPR and Pacifica networks.
