Burgess Needle is a Tucson writer whose work has appeared in Boston Literary Magazine, Istanbul Literary Review, Prism Review, Prick of the Spindle, Under the Radar (UK), Decanto (UK), Brittle Star (UK), Connotation Press, Evey Day Poets, BlackMarket Review (UK), Rufous City Review, Blackbox Manifold (UK), Concho River Review, Raving Dove, Centrifugal Eye, Iodine, Full of Crow, Kritya (India) and Red Fez. Literary criticism has appeared in Future Cycle. He taught English for two years in a small Thai village for the Peace Corps, been a co-director of the Southern Arizona Writing Project, co-published and edited Prickly Pear/Tucson [a poetry quarterly] for five years, was a school librarian for thirty years and, as a Minister in the Universal Life Church, performed two marriages. Jonathan Penner is a master teacher of fiction writing workshops.  His past students include David Foster Wallace, Richard Russo, and many other writers with outstanding literary careers.  Holder of both the MFA and PhD degrees from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, Penner was himself the student of John Updike, Bernard Malamud, Kurt Vonnegut, Angus Wilson, Antony Burgess, and Richard Yates. He is the author of the novels Going Blind and  Natural Order, the story collections Private Parties and This Is My Voice, and The Intelligent Traveler's Guide to Chiribosco, a novella.  His stories have been published in Harper's, Paris Review, and many other magazines.  His essays and reviews have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and The New Republic.
