He is the recipient of several awards including a National Press Foundation Award, a Fund for Investigative Journalism grant, a Goldstein Research Award from the Joan Shorenstein Barone Center on Press, Politics and Public Policy, an Abraham Woursell Fellowship from the University of Austria (Vienna) and a Martin Dibner Memorial fellowship from the Maine Community Foundation for fiction.
