Inspired by the natural-voice aesthetics of the Iowa City Actualists (of which he was a seminal writer and editor), the Beats, and the New York Poets, Morty writes with humor, intimacy and original insight in this thirty-six-year collection of poems addressing everything from heroin addiction to honor, innocent joy to mortal resignation, loneliness to everlasting love.

His The Spirit That Moves Us Press having been his only child, he looked after it more than seeking publication and promotion of his own work. In 1984, the Czech poet whose book, The Casting Of Bells, he published from his The Spirit That Moves Us Press in 1983, won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
