Bio:

I am very interested in hybridity and mixed-genre works, and non-fiction as a dynamic and activating presence within hybrid works that blur the lines between "fiction" and "poetry." I am also deeply interested in the multi-vocal. My latest works are long hybrids--A Monster's Notes ( which re-imagines Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; and the forthcoming Island of the Mad, which involves itself with Venice, the Venetian Plague of 1557, and the lives and works of Dostoevsky and Bulgakov. A Monster's Notes was chosen as one of the 10 Best Fictions of the Year by Entertainment Weekly and was long-listed for the Dublin Impac International Fiction Prize. I have taught at Princeton, Columbia (graduate program)and elsewhere, and have presented my work at Harvard, NYU, the New York Public Library, Vermont Studio Center, Te Center for Fiction, NYC, PEN World Voices, Baruch College CUNY, and elsewhere. I am interested in Chinese culture and have a Chinese daughter.
