Raleigh Review is a nonprofit magazine of poetry, short fiction, and art, offering accessible works of experience that are emotionally and intellectually complex. At Raleigh Review, the editors believe that great literature inspires empathy by allowing them to see the world through the eyes of their neighbors, whether across the street or across the globe. Their mission is to foster the creation and availability of accessible yet provocative contemporary literature.
Please be sure to read the guidelines and look at sample work on our website. We prefer work that is physically grounded and accessible, though complex and rich in emotional or intellectual power. We delight in stories from unique voices and perspectives. Any fiction that is born from a relatively unknown place grabs our attention. We are not opposed to genre fiction, so long as it has real, human characters and is executed artfully. We latch onto novel language and images, skilled awareness of sound, visceral reactions. We love a lyric poem and are equally impressed by strong narratives. We want to remember your lines, days later. We want to be surprised and envious.
