The program offers partial and full funding. A limited number of graduate and teaching assistantships are awarded to incoming students.
The program offers an open-genre degree. Students are encouraged to study across genres.
Students can take courses at both Stony Brook University's Manhattan and Southampton locations.
Students can be full-time or part-time.
The program hosts the Writers Speak reading series and student readings each semester, as well as the celebrated Southampton Writers Conference every summer.
Students can apply to teach undergraduate Creative Writing (not comp.) at Stony Brook University. The program offers an annual query workshop and offers thesis students the opportunity to meet individually with agents.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but to be considered for funding, you must apply by January 15. All other applicants for the fall semester should apply by July 15. Spring semester applicants should apply by October 15 and Summer applicants by May 1.
International applicants may only apply for the fall semester, and only as full-time students. The international deadline for all fall admissions (funded and unfunded) is January 15.
