Tips From the Agent

“For me, it’s ultimately all about the pages. I glance at query letters in order to get a quick sense of the book and make sure it fits what I’m looking for, and to learn about the author via their bio. Then I am diving in to read. If I’m really compelled with the premise and the first pages just aren’t clicking, I usually dip into the middle of the book. I used to be an editor, so I’m confident in working with clients to get a book in the right shape for submission. I am looking to expand my list of adult fiction and nonfiction, and across the board, I’m looking for a narrative I can get lost in. I don’t care if you query other agents, in fact you should, but in terms of New Leaf, please follow our guidelines exactly and only query one of us at a time. Thank you!”
