Tips From the Agent

“I would recommend writers read copy for various books to get a sense of how published books are being pitched/described. A successful query letter, in my opinion, should be able to intrigue you the same way a book’s description might as you’re browsing through a bookshop.

I also see a lot of query letters that suffer from a kitchen-sink quality—something to think about: What’s essential to the book and needs to be conveyed, and what are extraneous details that the query letter can do without? One last tip: Read books that are in the same space your book is trying to occupy!”
