The Fabulist Flash: 2025 Open Call

The editors are pleased to announce that their new flash fiction project, The Fabulist Flash, will open a submissions window later in Spring 2025, with a focus on short, fantastical fiction of up to 1,000 words. For details on the editors’ interest, rate of pay, and to review their flash fiction contract, visit their website.

We value:

  • Great writing (attention to sentence construction, an awareness of the poetry inherent in prose).
  • Vivid settings that influence and engage the plot and character arcs.
  • Revelations of the self and the world we live in.
  • Sensitivity and alertness to the significant issues of our times.
  • Escapism.
  • Endings that are not punchlines.
