Bio: 

Angela Acosta (she/her) is a bilingual Latina poet and scholar who grew up in Florida. She is beginning a new position as an Assistant Professor of Spanish at the University of South Carolina-Columbia in August 2024. Prior to USC, she worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies at Davidson College (2023-2024). She completed BA degrees in English Language and Literature and Spanish in addition to a Translation Studies Concentration at Smith College. She holds an MA in Spanish from The Ohio State University where she recently completed a PhD in Iberian Studies. Her research, teaching, and creative writing focus on recovering the legacies of early twentieth century Spanish women writers by providing new poems, translations, and analyses of their work. She won the 2015 Rhina P. Espaillat Award from West Chester University for her poem “El espejo”. Her poetry has appeared in Toyon Multilingual Journal of Literature and Art, Pluma, Panochazine, and Latinx Lit Audio Mag as well as speculative poetry magazines MacroMicroCosm, Eye to the Telescope, and Radon Journal. Her academic articles and translations have appeared in Ámbitos Feministas, El Cid, Metamorphoses, and Vernacular: New Connections in Language, Literature, and Culture with a forthcoming article in Persona Studies. She enjoys rock climbing and biking in her free time. She is author of the speculative poetry colleciton "Summoning Space Travelers" (Hiraeth Books, 2022) and the chapbooks "Fourth Generation Chicana Unicorn" (dancing girl press, forthcoming) and "A Belief in Cosmic Dailiness: Poems of a Fabled Universe" (Red Ogre Review, 2023).
