Bruce E. Whitacre

His debut collection, The Elk in the Glade: The World of Pioneer and Painter Jennie Hicks, was published in 2022 by Crown Rock Media.  It was a Publishers Weekly BookLife Editors Pick, and won second place in contemporary poetry from The BookFest 2023. His collection, Good Housekeeping, published in 2024 from Poets Wear Prada,is also a BookLife Editors Pick. His crown sonnet, "Murder, Mayhem and Me", won first place in the Nebraska Poetry Society Open Poetry Contest. His poem "Geruda in Forest Park" is part of the Queensbound project. His poems have appeared in The American Journal of Poetry, Buddhist Poetry Review, Cagibi, Hey, I’m Alive, Impossible Archive, Nine Cloud Journal, North of Oxford, Pensive Journal, Poets Wear Prada’s The Rainbow Project (nominated for Best of the Net and Pushcart Prizes), and World Literature Today.  His work is included in The Strategic Poet craft book by Diane Lockward, and in the anthologies, American Graveyard, Castles and Courtyards, and The Wonders of Winter, among others. He has taught workshops in narrative and structure at the Hudson Valley Writers Center and the Kearney Public Library (April, 2023). He holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. A retired theatre executive, he is a native of Nebraska and lives in Forest Hills, Queens with his husband.
