Lori Fisher has translated and published significant excerpts of the works of former East German poet Reiner Kunze during his period of transition to West Germany, including poems from zimmerlautstaerke, auf eigene hoffnung, and Die wunderbaren Jahre. A dual-language chapbook of her translations from Kunze’s zimmerlautstaerke was published by Swamp Press in Amherst, Mass. Lori received a BA in English and German from Hartwick College in Oneonta New York, and an MA in Writing (M.A.W.) from University of Iowa where she also attended the Translation Workshop.  She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of Giessen in Germany, where she completed a translation project. She has also published her original poetry in several journals including Blueline Magazine, Desideratum, Greene County Council on the Arts Literary Supplement, and Civil Beat. Three of her poems were published in Pua La'a Kea - 2021 Savant Poetry Anthology. She received the Anna Sonder Poetry Prize of the Academy of American Poets in 2 consecutive years, for her original poems "Campus Before Graduation" and "Pentimento."  She now makes her home in Hawai’i where she continues to write.
