Bio: 

Charity Gingerich is from Uniontown, OH. She obtained her MFA at West Virginia University, and lived in Morgantown, WV for over six years, where she taught a variety of writing courses at WVU and Fairmont State University. Since returning to Ohio, she has taught literature and creative writing at the University of Mount Union, and currently teaches ESL to international business persons and their families. Gingerich has received a poetry scholarship from the Sewanee Writer’s Conference (2016) and a residency from the Vermont Studio Center (2019). When not writing and teaching, she enjoys singing with various choral groups.

Prizes won: 

1. After June won The Hopper Poetry Prize, fall 2018

2. "Reading Antigone in late summer with monarch caterpillars" was chosen as a finalist for the James Hearst Poetry Prize (North American Review), winter 2018. 

3. "Self-portrait as newly painted barn" won second place in Smartish Pace's Beaullah Rose poetry compeition, and "Sister (51) & Sister (39) Load the BB Gun" was chosen as a finalist for the Erskine J. Poetry Prize, spring 2019. 

4. "The Afterlife of Lepidoptera" was selected by Jeanne Murray-Walker for second place in Ruminate's Janet B. McCabe Poetry Prize in 2014, and Shane McCrae selected "Watching smoke signals in late autumn with fog and coyboys" as a finalist for the same prize in 2017. 

Gingerich's work has also appeared in Field, The Kenyon Review, Indiana Review, Redivider, Zone 3, Relief, Pennsylvania English, Quiddity, Arts & Letters, and other journals.
