I am a journalist, author, and expert in media advocacy and change management communication seeking representation for four of my novels. My writings have been translated from English into Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Afrikaans. I write about marginalized communities and the plight of the poor. My work has appeared in Amazon magazines and Palgrave Macmillan, Routledge, University Press of America, Koehler Books, and Sage. I am a critically acclaimed author and guest commentator at Voice of America, Democracy Radio, and international conferences. My life has centered on introspection, conversation, cultural connections, and storytelling. Still, I count among my most significant achievements an award I received from the Global Listening Center and the Kom-USA organization for my work in promoting active listening among lay audiences and professionals and counseling young people. I often give lectures on college campuses in the US, Asia, Europe, and Africa. I have been a commentator on Voice of America, BBC-Africa, West Africa Democracy Radio, and cable television stations. Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Desmond Tutu, has commented on my writings. Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Gwendolyn Brooks, described my poetry as “talented,” “verse exhibiting,” “pleasing grace,” having a “fierce urgency.”
My readers have asked what inspires me to write novels; I tell them I am spurred by the need to narrate a common experience in a complex way. I like to encourage love; love is the spice for their happiness and peace; love is about letting go and sharing what you enjoy; people should not be afraid to be vulnerable.
My passion for writing fiction began when I was in middle school and wrote my first novel When We Met. I am also a poet who discovered a love of poetry when he was eleven years old. I am influenced by the works of Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway, and Thomas Hardy. Robert Frost strongly influenced his poetry work. I chose to publish my fiction and poetry under the nom de plume Emanuel Kane to separate my professional pursuits from my passion. My novels published include Leap in the Dark, Bo Aku, King of the Forest, The Unpaid Dowry, Dawn in Rage, The Masqueraders, and When in met. Poetry titles include Theaters of War, Whispers on my Pillow, and A Bush of Voices.
