Liz Whiteacre writes about a spinal injury she sustained and life with chronic pain in her poetry chapbook Hit the Ground (Finishing Line Press, 2013); writes from the persona of a composer experiencing their diagnosis with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in the chapbook it could account for the panic (Finishing Line Press, 2025); and writes to herself in a collection of photographs and poetry that includes poems written in her 20s and 40s in Hindsight 20/40 (Finishing Line Press, forthcoming in 2026).

Her poems have been published in an array of disability-focused literary journals and magazines, like Disability Studies Quarterly, Wordgathering, Kaleidoscope, The Healing Muse, Breath and Shadow, Disabled World and others. She co-edited the anthology Monday Coffee & Other Stories of Mothering Children with Special Needs with Darolyn “Lyn” Jones (INWords Press). Whiteacre explores pain through poetry, using figurative language to capture its beauty and complexity, as she works to make abstract pain concrete and join in conversation with other writers who share their experiences with disabilities in myriad ways.
