Bio:

Sarah Maclay’s Nightfall Marginalia is forthcoming in late 2023, from What Books Press. She is the author of four previous full-length collections of poetry: The “She” Series: A Venice Correspondence (2016, a braided collaboration with Holaday Mason); Music for the Black Room (2011); The White Bride (2008), and Whore (2004, The Tampa Review Prize for Poetry). She is also the author of several poetry chapbooks--Ice from the Belly, Shadow of Light, Weeding the Duchess—and scripts to perform, including Fugue States Coming Down the Hall. Her poetry serves as libretto for the song cycle Identity Had Gone (2022, composed by Kostas Rekleitis for piano and mezzo soprano), a contemporary classical album. Her work has also been supported and recognized by a Yaddo residency, a City of Los Angeles Individual Artist Fellowship, and a Pushcart Special Mention, and her poems and essays have appeared widely, in journals and anthologies such as The Best American Erotic Poems: 1800 to the Present, FIELD, Manoa, Ploughshares, The American Poetry Review, The Writers’ Chronicle and Poetry International, where she served as Book Review Editor for a decade, as well as translated into Spanish and Macedonian. Born in Missoula, she earned degrees at Oberlin and Vermont College of Fine Arts. Since 2005, she has been teaching Creative Writing and Literature at Loyola Marymount University. She lives in Los Angeles.
