The recipient of over 20 awards, including the Independent Press Award and fellowships from the Goethe-Institut and Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, HÉLÈNE CARDONA'S 7 books include Life in Suspension (2016), called “a vivid self-portrait as scholar, seer and muse” by John Ashbery, and Dreaming My Animal Selves (2013), described by David Mason as “liminal, mystical and other-worldly.” Her translations include The Abduction (Maram Al-Masri, 2023), Beyond Elsewhere (Gabriel Arnou-Laujeac, 2016), winner of a Hemingway Grant; Ce que nous portons (Dorianne Laux, 2014); Birnam Wood (José Manuel Cardona, 2018); and Walt Whitman’s Civil War Writings for WhitmanWeb (2015). She has also translated Rimbaud, Baudelaire, André Breton, René Depestre, Ernest Pépin, Aloysius Bertrand, Eric Sarner, Jean-Claude Renard, Nicolas Grenier, John Ashbery, John FitzGerald and Christiane Singer. Her work as been translated into 19 languages. She holds a Masters in American Literature from the Sorbonne, worked as a translator for the Canadian Embassy in Paris, and taught at Hamilton College & LMU. She also writes children stories and co-wrote with John FitzGerald the screenplay Primate, based on his novel. Acting credits include Chocolat, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jurassic World, The Hundred-Foot Journey, Muppets Most Wanted, Serendipity, and Happy Feet 2. Born in Paris and raised all over Europe, she has lived in Switzerland, France, England, Wales, Monaco, Germany, Spain, and the United States.
