Bio: 

Larissa Shmailo is a poet, novelist, Russian translator, editor, and literary critic. Novels: Shmailo's new novel is Sly Bang, (Spuyten Duyvil ,2019), a feminist hybrid literary science fiction experiment; her first novel about sex addiction is Patient Women (BlazeVox 2015).
Translations: Shmailo translated the Russian transrational opera Victory over the Sun for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s landmark restaging. She is editor of the anthology Twenty-first Century Russian Poetry (Big Bridge). She has translated on Biblical translation in Russia for the Eugene A. Nida Institute for Biblical Scholarship’s History of Bible Translation book series.
Selected Publications and Recordings: Shmailo’s poetry, translations, and critical writing have appeared in Fulcrum, Barrow Street, Drunken Boat, Jacket, Jacket2, Plume, The Battersea Review, The Brooklyn Rail, the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, The Common, and over 100 other journals, as well as in the anthologies Measure for Measure (Penguin Random House), Words for the Wedding (Penguin) and Contemporary Russian Poetry (Dalkey Archive Press). Her books of poetry are Medusa's Country (MadHat), #special characters (Unlikely Books), In Paran (BlazeVox books), Fib Sequence (Argotist Ebooks), and A Cure for Suicide (Cervena Barva Press, chapbook); her poetry CDs are The No-Net World (SongCrew) and Exorcism (SongCrew).

Awards and Recognition Shmailo received the 2009 New Century Music Awards for poetry with electronica, jazz, and rock, and “Best Poetry Album” for Exorcism. Shmailo has received honorable mention in the 2011 Compass Award for literary translation, the 2012 Elizabeth P. Braddock Award for poetry, the May 2012 Goodreads poetry prize, and the 2012 Glass Woman prize for prose.
