Bio: 

Beth Alvarado is the author of four books: Jillian in the Borderlands: A Cycle of Rather Dark Tales (Black Lawrence Press, 2020): the essay collection, Anxious Attachments (Autumn House Press) which won the 2020 Oregon Book Award for Creative Nonfiction; Anthropologies: A Family Memoir (University of Iowa Press, 2011); and Not a Matter of Love and other stories (Winner of the Many Voices Project Award, New Rivers Press, 2006).  Her stories and essays have been published in many fine journals including, The Sun, Guernica: An International Magazine of Politics and Art, The Southern Review, and Ploughshares. Three of her essays have been chosen as Notable by Best American Essays. Tucson Arizona was home for most of her life and is the setting for most of her work. She taught at the University of Arizona for decades. She now lives in the high desert of Oregon where she teaches for OSU-Cascades Low Residency Creative Writing Program. She is a recipient of a 2020 Oregon Career Artist’s Fellowship.
