A prize of £3,000 (approximately $3,990) is given annually for a group of poems by a poet who was born in Africa, is an African national or resident, or whose parents are African. Poets who have not yet published a full-length collection are eligible. The prize is cosponsored by Commonwealth Writers and the African Poetry Book Fund.
