“I had a dream of having poetry at the intersections of New York, where all kinds of people pass through daily,” says Marie Howe, former New York State poet laureate, in this 2015 video about the inspiration for the Poetry in Motion: The Poet Is In festival. The annual National Poetry Month event is hosted by the Poetry Society of America and MTA Arts & Design, and features poems written on request by award-winning poets.

"The shared memories sprang to both their faces." Matthea Harvey, author of If the Tabloids Are True What Are You? (Graywolf Press, 2014), reads "The Homemade Mermaid," from her collection of mermaid poems. Harvey is featured in "Mermaids and Matryoshkas" by Sandra Beasley in the November/December issue of Poets & Writers Magazine.

This short film, based on the poem "The Straightforward Mermaid" by Matthea Harvey, was filmed and directed by Ani Simon-Kennedy. It was selected for the Short Film Corner at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. You can read the poem, which appeared in the New Yorker last August, here.
